James Packer blames bipolar for threatening emails in Crown inquiry

James Packer, the gambling owner and former chairman of the Australian casino operator, has attributed recently exposed instances of his aggressive behavior to a psychotic disorder in an official report into Crown Resorts.

The meeting focused on concerns over packer's publication of emails. It was disclosed in the hearing that Packer sent threatening emails to a businessman around the time he planned to privatize Crown Resorts in 2015.

Packer acknowledged his conduct was embarrassing, according to ABC Australia, but attributed it to his bipolar disorder, which he claimed he was being cared for at the time.

Packer also told the hearing that the drugs he had taken over the last four years had left him with memory problems. When asked whether he felt this would impact his ability to remember his time as Crown Resorts manager, Packer answered it would.

The Crown Resorts inquiry itself is evaluating if the casino developer is eligible to retain an operating license in Sydney, where it plans to launch the Crown Sydney AU$2.2bn ($1.57bn) in Barangaroo this December.

In September, the investigation by the New South Wales independent liquor and gaming regulator revealed claims that Crown Resorts had dismissed money laundering threats and ties to organized crime.
