Gamblers in Goa Break COVID-19 Restrictions

Given the many tourists and local gamblers who do not obey the COVID-19 restrictions, residents of Goa, India, are extremely concerned for their welfare.

Goa Travelers And Local Gamblers Ignore COVID Constraints

The casinos in the Indian state of Goa had been permitted to reopen doors earlier this month. After some seven months of restricted operations due to COVID-19, tourists were able to reopen both land-based and floating casinos in the area. But their potential was limited to 50% in the light of the pandemic.

Although it's only been few weeks after the operations resume, Goa residents have already disclosed that they're worried about the actions of both tourist and local gamblers. The gamblers violate the COVID-19 prohibitions by not wearing their masks and failing to obey social distancing laws, according to the locals.

In comparison, long queues and clusters of people converge at the exits to both aquatic and terrestrial venues. Provided that the pandemic has yet to go out, some gamblers crowds have raised several questions with Goa people.

Goa Residents Can Suffer From Violation Of COVID-19 Rules By Gamblers

Atanasio Monserrate, BJP MLA, disclosed its worries about the masses of people who during the pandemic do not obey the standard operating procedures (SOPs). Speaking to IANS on Tuesday this week, Monserrate revealed that while tourists are having fun, it is Goans who can get COVID-19 contaminated. He said he would talk to the Chief Minister and the Minister of Health to discuss what can be done to implement the SOPs.

With that in mind, Panaji city mayor Uday Madkaikar, where the floating casinos are kept, has recently imposed a Rs100 fine (US$1.35) for any tourist who has been found violating the COVID-19 restrictions. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant doubled the fine, though. In addition, according to Panaji city authorities, large numbers of vehicles such as motorcycles and cars have been banned from the city's main roads because they created traffic obstructions.

Focusing on COVID-19 info, over 9.2 million cases have been registered in India by now. While most cases are registered around the globe in the U.S. – 12.9 million, India holds second position in the list of most recorded positive cases. As for Goa, there were more than 47,000 recorded positive cases of COVID-19. More than 45,000 have recovered from the number while 679 people have died.
