CSOP and Imagine Dragons Host "Slay Cancer with Poker" Tournament
The Tyler Robinson Foundation, charitable group which belongs to Imagine Dragons band, and the Charity Series of Poker host an initiative to support families afflicted by childhood cancer.
Poker Tournaments Raise Funds For Pediatric Cancer
2020's first Charity Poker Series (CSOP) is expected to take place in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 18. The group has collaborated with the Tyler Robinson Foundation (TRF) to organize the "Slay Cancer with Poker" game, which was created by the Grammy Award winners band Imagine Dragons.
There will be an open bar reception at 3:30pm before the 'Slay Cancer with Poker' tournament starts. The direct competition will begin at 5pm, with a $300 buy-in. Players will be eligible to purchase $100 re-buys and add-ons – with $1000 in prizes given to players with the most re-buys, and the chip champion at the end of the event's time registration.
The cumulative victory over the case will earn a $10,000 entry into the June 2020 World Series of Poker Main Event. The TRF, which helps families struggling with childhood cancer, will benefit from all net proceeds from 'Slay Cancer with Poker'.
“The mission of the Tyler Robinson Foundation is to strengthen families financially and emotionally as they cope with the tragedy of a pediatric cancer diagnosis by offsetting out-of-pocket expenses”
– a statement from the CSOP.
Although it is yet to be verified whether Imagine Dragons will attend the event themselves or not, a number of high-profile guests have said they are expected to take part. Actors Mekhi Phifer, Kane Hodder and WSOP bracelet winner Chris Wallace are scheduled to participate. Joe Stapleton will be the emcee for the event and also attendance will be CSOP founder Matt Stout.
What is TRF?
Founded in 2014, the Charity Series of Poker is a non-profit organisation that supports charity poker tournaments that raise funds for charitable causes. The CSOP has raised money over the years for groups such as Habitat for Humanity, the Folded Flag Foundation, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, and the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.
The Tyler Robinson Foundation was founded in honor of Tyler Robinson who at the age of 16 was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called 'rhabdomyosarcoma'. Throughout his battle with cancer he had become close to the members of Imagine Dragons and the band formed the group in his memory. The foundation has raised more than $10 million over the years to support people who have been affected by childhood cancer.
