Casinos and Wagering Shops to Close From 14 October in Liverpool

The UK government has announced that casinos and betting shops in Merseyside will close as part of new steps aimed at preventing coronavirus transmission from 14 October.

On 12 October, Prime Minister Boris Johnson introduced a new three-tier restriction structure in England that extends to each area around the country based on the transmission risk.

Tier one is made up of areas with the lowest illness rates and follows the simple national laws currently in place, such as the rule of six (no one should mix in a group of greater than 6) and the closure of pubs and restaurants at 22:00.

Tier two is for regions where national restrictions are still in place.

Tier three, of Liverpool City Area - Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, Wirral, St Helens and Halton - the only region in this category, is the largest level of constraints where transmissions are the most.

That means that all casinos and betting shops, along with gyms and recreation centers, shall shutter from Wednesday, October 14. Bars and pubs will all be locked and where you can't combine indoors or outside serving meals and residences.

For each month, the latest steps will be checked and echo Scotland's decision last week that saw casinos closed in central Scotland, along with pubs and restaurants, from October 9 to October 25 at least.

The news followed an spike in cases in England, which saw close to 14,000 confirmed positive tests reported on Monday October 12.

The new regulations will come as a further significant blow to the country's casino and retail sector. Betting shops have been open since 15 June since mid-March lockout, with casinos only reopening their doors on 15 August, and also promising to cease selling drinks to prevent closures like this.
