War of the Worlds by HG Wells was one of the first science fiction novels to question life beyond planet Earth. More importantly it depicted what might happen if alien beings invaded our planet. It has been made into plays, movies and is now loosely used as the subject of this five reel video slot from BetOnSoft. ...

I suppose that everyone who had had this welcome bonus of 10 cents and took the chance to play a slot like “Tails of NY” made the worst opinion about these casinos. But this review is about a very different slot from BetOnSoft, namely “Worlds at War”. Well, the slot is not of the worst possible, and at least it made me change a bit of my bad opinion that I had about these casinos.

Briefly the slot theme is the war between various interstellar species (lizards, robots, men, kind of bats, etc.). The Music from the background that accompanies the spins is quite nice and somehow together with the graphics it creates an atmosphere like it is totally detached from the best SciFi. The slot has 15 lines with a bet of 15 cents and I was surprised to see that after the first 200 spins played I went into win with about 10 Euro. From these slots where a win of 10 cents is big, I did not believe it. And again I do not believe I say that I played here for pleasure. Even if wins are small, not very rare you catch also a handsome winning and thus you have something to be proud of. In addition, 2 or 3 of the game symbols are extremely beautiful drawn: the “Commander Griffin” which is Wild and the “Galaxy Gates” that triggers the bonus game and whose animations are flawless. In the Bonus game you need to fire at and shot down with a gun 5 ships and this requires certain dexterity. The slot has also a Free spins round, that gives in general 5 spins. Wins from Free spins and Bonus round are not very large (sometimes even you will win almost nothing), but at least me after about 400 spins, I did not lost too much playing here.

The game itself is beautiful because of the atmosphere like from the best SciFi stories that it manages to create. I guess this is one of the good slots for which BetOnSoft can be proud of.

That was quite a movie. I Iiked it. The final ending...hahaha...that would kill the whole movie, wouldn't it?! So I guess this Worlds At War game was based on that movie, except that there's only one hero in the game - Griffin. One man against all the aliens? Hmm, if he can win, so can you, hahaha. Nah, I didn't win anything from the game, but quite enjoyed it, that's all.

Griffin, the great hero, is the Wild symbol, paying a marvellous 10,000x the line bet for getting 5 of him, if you can get it of course. This Wild symbol doubles all wins with it, substitutes for other symbols except for the Scatter symbol, but does nothing else. No stacking of the Wilds, no expanding of the Wilds either. Too bad. The Demonion is the Scatter symbol, paying a very nice 500x total bet for getting 5 of them, and getting 3, 4 or 5 Scatters trigger 5, 7 or 10 free spins but without any multiplier. Oh sheesh, what a way to kill the Free Spins game! Getting 5 free spins is bad enough, and without any multiplier too? Damn! The Free Spins game can be retriggered, but what good can that do? Not much at all, if you ask me.

The Galaxie Gate, that triangular green thing, is the Bonus symbol, paying 400x the line bet for getting 5 of them. Getting 3 or more of these green things on any active payline, starting from reel 1, triggers the Planetary Defense Bonus game. Your task is to shoot down the Alien spaceships to save the world. The spaceships come in waves, 5 waves in all, but you only have 5 shells per wave to get them. Hitting a spaceship carrying a nuclear bomb would make all the remaining spaceships retreat, thereby not allowing you to shoot any more of them. That would end the game of course, so try to avoid hitting that one blardy spaceship. Hmm, like you can know which spaceship not to hit? Hahaha. As for the other symbols in the game, the Yellow Planet pays 1000x, the Blue Planet pays 750x, and the others pay from 250x to 100x, all per line bet for getting 5 of each kind. A good paytable indeed.

Honestly speaking, I've played this game only twice. The first time was with 50 free spins given to me by a casino. That got me interested in the game, so I made a small deposit and played it again. However, I didn't win anything at all in the end, but I certainly got some fun out of it. The Free Spins game could have been so much more interesting if it was with 10 free spins at least, and with a multiplier too. 5 free spins just cannot provide any good wins, except on exceptional cases, and the only Free Spins game that I got paid a lousy 22x my bet amount. Lousy because 22x is never enough for me! It should be 220x! Hahaha.
