Two Cyprus Casinos are Currently Closed Due to COVID-19 Lockdowns
Cyprus Casinos has suspended activities at two of their casinos as the government on the island braces for a second COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
Melco Resorts & Entertainment's Cyprus-based subsidiary has announced that it would shutter Cyprus Casinos Limassol and Cyprus Casinos Pafos until 30 November.
The announcement came as a direct result of the current pandemic, with federal emergency measures requiring the two properties to close.
The resorts, Nicosia and Ayia Napa will remain open, but with shortened hours of service and stringent safety measures in place.
A statement from the company says:
“Valued Customers, with utmost priority the safeguard of your health and a sense of responsibility, Cyprus Casinos Limassol will be closing at 5pm on 12th November while Cyprus Casinos Pafos will be closing at 3pm, as they will be suspending their operations until 30th November, according to the emergency governmental measures.
We continue to maintain strict hygiene standards to ensure a safe and enjoyable gaming environment for everyone.”
The announcement comes after the government of Cyprus put the island's southwest region under a strict 19-day lockdown earlier this week, in a bid to cut infection rates across the country.
A total of 185 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Thursday in the world, with a record of 314 cases registered on November 7.
ICR Cyprus, the Cyprus Casinos operating company, is 75% owned by Melco headquartered in Hong-Kong and 25% owned by Cyprus Phassouri Ltd., a local company.
